Trudy’s Obituary
It is with great regret that we announce that Trudy, of Aylesford Nova Scotia, at the age of 69, passed away on May 6th, 2020 in Valley Regional Hospital while holding her husband’s hand. She was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in January and in the ensuing three months she repeatedly and joyfully said that she was ready and looking forward to going home to her Lord.
Trudy was born in Vegreville Alberta, the fourth of six children, to Leona (Bienvenu) Schaefer of Armstrong, BC, and the late William Gordon Drozdowich. Following her childhood years in Vegreville she moved with her parents and siblings to the Fraser Valley of BC, after her marriage she moved with her husband to northern Québec and then to Salmon Arm BC where they raised their four sons. Once the children had graduated, she moved with her husband to Vancouver Island and then, following her husband’s retirement, to Aylesford in Nova Scotia.
Trudy was an adventurous spirit who loved to travel. Witnessed by several road trips across Canada, numerous conventions in the US, touring the Mediterranean and Egypt, a pilgrimage to Israel, Jordan and Palestine, and wintering in New Zealand.
Trudy had serious illnesses in the mid 1990s and controlled them with serious attention to diet and nutrition; she became an independent distributor for a health food company in 1996 and continued to represent them for the rest of her life. She was an incredibly positive and caring person who loved to meet new people and help them with their health challenges.
She was very involved in the church in every community where she lived. She was an active member of the Cursillo Movement since 1978, had been a member of the Catholic Women’s League, and taught religious education to both adults and children. Since moving to the Annapolis Valley she loved to help with hospitality at her local Saint Anthony Padua Catholic Church in Berwick. Trudy was at devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and friend.
Trudy is sadly missed by her husband of 50 years, Reinhard (Rye); her sons Eric (Carly), Vernon, BC; Damon (Chelsea), North Vancouver, BC; Levi (Leah), Vancouver, BC; and Adam, Saint-Adele, QC. She is also missed by her sisters Julie (Carl) Ottosen, Kamloops, BC; Rea (Tom) Smith, Armstrong, BC; Sharon (Alec) Wray, Enderby, BC; Sandra Drozdowich, Vancouver, BC; and by numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her father she was predeceased by her brother Bryan Drozdowich; grandson Jeremy Stoelting; and by Gabriel, Adaina-Vanessa, Christy-Rose, and Nicholas, during childbirth.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jennifer Gillis, Chisolm’s Pharmacy, VON, Palliative Care, and Valley Regional Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion, and loving support.
Cremation has taken place and a Mass has been celebrated. A memorial service will take place later once the present pandemic is over. Donations in Trudy’s memory can be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, VON Annapolis Valley Branch, or to the Palliative Care ‘Carry Me’ Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. toll free 902-855-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
