Born in Calcutta, India, Tapas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Hamilton. The beloved youngest child of the late Sri Phanindranath Banerjee and the late Srimati Maya Banerjee, he was predeceased by his parents and three siblings. He will be missed by his loving wife Shibani, beloved daughters Ipsita and Sanchita, cherished son-in-law Eddie and adoring granddaughters Anjali Juliza and Amani Marisol.
Marrying Shibani Chakraborty in 1970, they immigrated to Toronto, Canada to start their life together. He enjoyed cooking, entertaining and creating joyous experiences for his family and friends. Hospitality was not only his vocation, but his passion. He spent the last 16 years of his life in Hamilton, Ontario within a community that supported his creative and wellness pursuits. He there accomplished his dream of becoming an author, self-publishing titles in both Bengali and English including his memoir, “As Far As I Can See.” He will be lovingly remembered for his laughter, sense of humour, kindness, generosity and gentle wisdom by everyone impacted by his light and friendship.
Visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Drive, BURLINGTON (905.527.0405) on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm. Puja at 12:00 pm. Cremation to follow.
