Obituary for Stan Smids
Peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia, Stanley Smids passed away at the age of 91. Beloved husband to Hilda (nee Bos) for 68 years. Loving father to the late Hilda (Norman) Sparling (1999), Harrietta (Paul) Campbell, Cynthia (Bob) Coates, Clara (the late Dick, 2008) Dreise, Fred (Connie) Smids, Barb (Roger) Garnaitis, and Clarence (Julie) Smids. Proud grandpa to 27 and great grandpa to 44. Survived by his sister Gretchen (Joe) Vandervinne and sister-in-law, Tinie Smids. He will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Flora, Sally, Ralph, John, Tina and his parents Fred and Hilda Smids. Stanley came to Canada with his family on the Waterman from the Netherlands in 1947 after WWII and settled in Dresden. He and Hilda met at a church function in Chatham as teenagers and married in a short time after, in 1952. Stan enjoyed farming and being in touch with nature and his animals and found joy raising his family in that community. His love for Christ was at the centre of his daily living and he instilled that love in his children and everyone around him.
A private visitation will take place followed by a burial at Beechwood Cemetery, Forest.
