Shirley Marion Montgomery
Shirley Marion Montgomery 72 of Carman, Manitoba passed away on April 9 after an ongoing battle with Lam’s disease (lymphangioleimyomatosis) a rare lung disease that only attacks the lungs of women.
Shirley was born to Steve and Christina Buddick on June 23, 1947 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba
Shirley met her husband Mel while they both worked at Ayerst Pharmaceuticals in Brandon in 1966. After working there for a year they both decided to become teachers. They studied at Brandon College. In August of 1969 Mel and Shirley were married and both took teaching jobs at the Carman Elementary School in the fall of 1969.
Shirley taught until Gordon was born followed four years later by James and devoted most of her full time at home except for occasionally substitute teaching. She will be remembered fondly by her students and all those who knew her.
Shirley enjoyed her family, watching movies, reading, walking, looking after her yard, golfing, and spending time with friends and family.
Shirley is survived by her husband Mel, Sons Gordon(Eunjung) Gordon Junior, grand son James(Monika) Granddaughter Grace of Winnipeg, her mother Christina Haggarty, sister Beverley Buddick, brothers Mervin, Vincent, and Larry (Carole) Jordan Buddick, sister Chris(Bob) Scott, nieces Debbie Scott-Roeke and Starlynn as well as her favorite cousin Georgina Buddick.
She was preceded in death by her father Steve and brother Raymond.
Shirley had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone, especially her family! She was always supportive of her boys in all their endeavors.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend to many people. The family would like to thank all the caring health care workers in Carman, Winnipeg, Bethesda MD, the Boundary Trails for all their care and understanding.
A special thanks to close friends Minnie Guilford, Marg Clarke, Sylvia Tissot, you meant so much to Shirley.
The family has entrusted Doyle’s Funeral Home of Carman with burial. There will be a celebration of Shirley’s life and reception at a later date with Marg Clarke and Sylvia Tissot officiating.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Carman Memorial Hospital or Boundary Trails Hospital Palliative Care.
