The Guilbault/Jacobs family is sad to announce the passing of their matriarch – mother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and elder of the Tsawwassen First Nation.
Sharon was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. While growing up, she was surrounded by many family and friends. In the late 80’s/early 90’s, Sharon came back to her community in Tsawwassen and brought her mom with her back home. While in Tsawwassen, she was honoured to serve as the first female Chief of Tsawwassen First Nation from 1995-1999 and previously served as Councillor from 1991 to 1995. During this time, she made significant contributions to her community and for her people. Sharon later returned to Winnipeg with her son Rory Jr. While there, she enjoyed spending her time with her family and working for the Province of Manitoba in Immigration and Multiculturalism. Sharon had a large family near and far and she would always come back to Tsawwassen every year to attend the Members Gatherings and to be with her many family and friends again.
Sharon was devoted to her family, passionate about being a mother, proud to be a Coast Salish woman, and was well respected in her community. She will be celebrated for her strength, independence, and fiery demeanor. She will be remembered for her boundless love that she showed her family and friends, especially her son, Rory Jr.
Sharon was predeceased by her father Albert Guilbault, mother Elizabeth Jacobs, brothers David Twersky, Joe Mathias, Jerry Mathias, and George Mathias and sister Alice Guilbault.
She is survived by her son Rory Dubois Jr, brother Robert Guilbault, sisters Bonnie Guilbault, Rosalie Howard (nee Twersky), Marie Twersky, Patsy Twersky, and Penny Twersky, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sharon was blessed to have so many families in her life. She was predeceased by her father Ulysse Lamoureux, mother Aurore Lamoureux. and survived by her brother Marcel Lamoureux, sister Estelle Lamoureux, friends Gordon Bowcott, Rory Dubois Sr., as well as many extended family members and friends.
With the heart of David, the strength of Goliath, the wisdom of Gandhi, and the brain of Einstein. My mom will never be forgotten. She will carry on in our dreams, our thoughts, and our souls will reunite in love and spirit. We are 97% stardust and we are all a part of the universe in one way or another.
It’s like a sea, it’s like a lost soul in the ocean, and a mermaid comes up to touch your face.
Sharon touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
