SAMUEL “COLIN” TURNBULL
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of devoted father, son, husband and friend Samuel Colin Turnbull on Sunday, October 18th, 2020 in Winnipeg, Manitoba following a courageous battle with colon cancer at the age of 56.
Colin was born on March 30th, 1964, in Greenock, Scotland. Along with his father William Turnbull, mother, Margaret (nee Ross) and brother Willam (Bill) Turnbull, they made the trip as a family in 1973 to Canada to start a new life and settled in Winnipeg.
Colin had a passion for hockey and a true zest for life. Growing up, he taught himself to skate by spending many late nights on the ice in the winter. After graduating from Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, he went on to teach minor league hockey and remained a positive force in the community.
Always looking for a challenge, Colin became employed in the car industry, selling cars and making many reputable connections over the years, before settling into his position as finance manager at Winnipeg Hyundai with whom he was employed for the past 15 years. No matter who crossed Colin’s path, they would be welcomed with a beaming smile, and accompanied by a laugh or sarcastic joke. His passion to make people happy, coupled with his no-nonsense attitude allowed him to make many friends along the way.
Most of all, Colin was extremely devoted to his family. Colin spent countless hours (and dollars) supporting his daughter’s passions for soccer and cheerleading. Following the Jets return to the NHL in 2011, Colin would spend his free time enjoying watching his beloved Jets play at the MTS Centre alongside his daughters Jennifer and Tiana Turnbull. Another favourite pastime of his included walking the family dog(s) beside Sturgeon Creek with his dearest wife Jamesena, or enjoying a nice hot meal surrounded by loved ones. Colin always made sure to provide copious amounts of food (and sweet things) for family gatherings and holidays.
In addition, Colin also had a thirst for knowledge and bettering himself and all those lives he touched through their interaction with him. Colin enjoyed reading many personal development books and could be found travelling to cities like Toronto to participate in seminars with world-class leaders. Colin particularly enjoyed becoming a ‘Titan’ at the Titan Conferences lead by Robin Sharma. Colin always had a knack for identifying and seeing the positive in every situation, even in the final stages with his battle against colon cancer.
Colin is survived by his mother Margaret Turnbull, brother William (Bill) Turnbull (Nikki), wife Jamesena (nee Bray), and daughters Jennifer and Tiana Turnbull. His presence will also be greatly missed by sisters- in-law Shirley Bray-Mak (Gordon) and Bonnie Lambert (Claude). Colin was also very fond of his nieces and nephews he leaves behind; Daylan, Aaron and Jonah Lambert, Jasmine and Jordan Bray-Mak, as well as Nicholas Turnbull. He will also be missed by countless other co-workers and friends with whom Colin met throughout his lifetime.
An intimate family viewing service will be held at Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, located at 2157 Portage Avenue, on Friday, October 23rd, 2020.
Please share any kind sentiments and dear memories of Colin on the Wojcik’s website to give condolences. Please contact Tiana or Jennifer Turnbull directly if you would like to make a donation or send flowers to the family.
Thank you for all you have done and accomplished in your life, Colin. You will never be forgotten, and your spirit will live on in the minds and hearts of those whose lives you bettered just by knowing you. You can rest now.
