Robert Ronald O’Brien
May 30, 1943 – February 14, 2020
With broken hearts and profound sadness, the family of retired RNC Sergeant Robert Ronald O’Brien regret to announce his sudden passing after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family on February 14, 2020, age 76 years. Predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Mary (May) O’Brien, and his brother, Patrick. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 51 years and best friend, Loretta (nee White); his three daughters, Susan (Gordon Adams), Sharon (Adam Seymour), and Stephanie; his two special granddaughters, Claire and Hannah Adams; his brother Francis (Veronica); sisters-in-law, Josephine Klover (George), Joan Sachetti (Ron); brothers-in-law, Kevin White (Monique), Walter White (Christine); as well as a large circle of relatives and friends including his furry friends Chloe, Tigger and Nova.
Originally from Trepassey, NL, Bob was a proud veteran of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary with whom he served for over 20 years. Dad was the epitome of a selfless and loving husband and father; kind, gentle, and unassuming is how we will always fondly remember him. He was deeply religious and always put the needs of others before his own. He adored his granddaughters which was clear by how his face would light up every time he saw them. Dad was also a huge animal lover and loved relaxing with his cat Chloe.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Cremation has taken place. Visitation on Thursday from 12-4pm and 6-9pm. Funeral Mass will take place from Mary Queen of the World on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10am with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family would also like to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and all the staff working in Unit 1 of the emergency department of the Health Sciences Center. Their care and kindness are deeply appreciated.
He will be forever loved, missed and cherished in our memories. We are blessed to have called him our husband, father, and grandfather.
