Robert Kevin Luke Ewenin
October 22, 1966 ~ July 16, 2020
Bobby was fortunate enough to not attend residential school, but suffered intergenerational trauma. That cycle of abuse stopped with him. He was very protective of the girls and grandchildren and never wanted them to go through the same thing he went through. He took pride in the girls and taught them to “walk the truth”. He loved the girls endlessly and stayed by their side until his last breath. He was the best Papa to RJ, Atticus and Ellen. He was so proud of them. They were his “reason to live and fight another day”, he would say.
Bobby was encouraged by his mom at an early age to draw. His creative talents included acrylic paintings, murals, tattooing, pow wow regalia, bustles, moccasins, bead work, drums/drumsticks, staffs, and head dresses. Bobby was very creative and liked to be kept busy doing crafts. In his teen years he followed Lloyd Sr. on the trail dancing traditional.
Bobby loved hockey and was a goalie for years. He cheered for the Canadiens growing up, later becoming a Flames fan. He played goal for Paul band, PICSS T-Birds, Kawacatoose Flyers, Gordon’s, and Standing Buffalo, among others. Bobby would play for anyone; he just loved the game. He was the best goalie around. Bobby stood on his head many times and was always fun to watch.
In the later part of the 80’s, the late Cliff Tawiyaka introduced Lloyd Sr. to the Sundance and Woptura Tiospaye. From then on he sincerely had faith in the Seven Sacred Rights and the teachings they come with. He took time away from his family to learn about these ways and travelled with Louis Movescamp to help and learn ceremony. Bobby gathered medicines, made pipes and stems, cut tobacco, sang the songs, sacrificed many times, and was devoted to his prayer and helping other when he could. He did it for the sake of his nieces and nephews, and later on for the girls and grandchildren. Bobby had respect for children and honoured their innocence. His sense of humor was one of a kind and will be forever missed. Bobby leaves to mourn his “world,» pride and joy; RJ, Atticus and Ellen. Daughters Cheyanna, Indy, Shante, Wakan Win, his baby Skarlett and his partner “The Beast,” Roberta.
Bobby is survived by his daughters: Cheyanna, Independence, Shante, Wakan Win, Skarlett, and Karlon Onespot; his grandchildren: Robert “RJ”, Atticus, and Ellen; his favourite sister Sundance (Joseph); his sisters: Patsy, Cheryl, and Lillian (Leonard); brother Nicky; uncle Ron Ewenin Sr; adopted brothers Brad Spence, David Turner, Wild Bill, James Onespot, and Sidney Gill; special nieces and nephews: Tom, Creedance “Beah”, Alexis “Lex”, “Jer”, “Rocky” Megan, Thor, Jessika (Mike) and Kate, Robin, and Taylen “Favourite Whiteboy” Keshane. He is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews; special Woptura Family: Two Hoops, Sam, Louis, Germaine Movescamp, Beatrice “Bea” and Garett Moosemay; and special Sundance Mothers, Annika Peters and Candace Woods.
Bobby was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Lloyd Ewenin; his brothers Lloyd Jr, Rod Pelletier, Johnnie Musqua, Micheal Pelletier; his nephews Phillip, Bearchild, Jonathan Ewenin, Zachary Ewenin-Kay, William Ewenin, and Avery Musqua; and grand niece Peta Wakan Win Onespot.
