Rita’s Obituary
The family of the late Rita Anaka announce her peaceful passing at Sturgis, SK, on Monday, October 19, 2020, at the age of 83 years.
Rita was born May 7, 1937, to Nestor and Pauline (nee Okrainetz) Mentanko, at the family farm north of Sturgis, SK. She attended Ajax School and then West Ajax School until grade eight. She did not further her education, as she was needed at home to help her mother on the farm.
Rita married George Wassil Anaka on October 28, 1956. Together they had two children, Sheryl and Lori.
Rita was an amazing cook and an avid gardener. In her younger years, she loved to dance. She enjoyed being with her family and many get-togethers.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rita was predeceased by her parents, Nestor and Pauline; her loving husband, George; brothers: Harry Sr. in infancy, Steve, Mike, Johnny, George, and Harry Jr.; and sisters, Margaret, Ann, and Katie.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Craig); son, Lori (Kim); grandchildren: Kristen, Erin, Amie, Justin (Courtney) and Amber; great-grandchildren: Makayla, Bella, Samira, and Zach; her sister, Elsie Semeschuk; and life-long friend, Mike Korneychuk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Private Graveside Service will be held at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Parish Cemetery, northeast of Stenen, SK, with Very Rev. Fr. Rodion Luciuk officiating. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Preeceville and District Nursing Home – Long Term Care Unit or to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Rita Anaka.
