Richard’s Obituary
Smith, Richard Eugene – 67, of Shag Harbour, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on September 18, 1953, he was a son of the late Manus Eugene and Gladys Evelyn Smith. Richard was born and raised in Shag Harbour. In his younger years he spend many days out in a row boat to get irish moss and also worked in a fish plant in his teen years. As soon as he was tall enough to walk Richard spent a lot of his time in the woods, rabbiting. Richard had a strong love for animals, especially his dog, Buster who has been by his side for the past 10 years. He was well loved by all. If you ever got lost in the woods he was sure to tell you how to get out. Richard is survived by his brothers, Roger (Veronica) Smith of Shag Harbour; Chris (Diane) Smith of Yarmouth; Jackie (Joyce) Smith of Shag Harbour and Michael (Sandra) Smith of Pubnico; sister, Elizabeth (Larry) Woods of Woods Harbour; Elaine (Bub) Mooney of Cape Island and Andrea Smith of Shag Harbour; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Smith. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 17, at 2:00 pm at the Calvary United Baptist Church, Wood’s Harbour. Pastor Phil Williams officiating. Due to Covid-19 restriction, seating may be limited to 150 people and social distancing guidelines must be followed (Immediate family will be given priority for seating). Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA, Wood’s Harbour/Shag Harbour Fire Department or any charity of your choice.
