OLGA SOMMERFELD went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the age of 82. She was born as the youngest of 4 children on January 24, 1937 to her parents Wilhelm and Alwine Kumpolt, in Porozow, Poland. Olga was predeceased by her siblings Alina, Karl and Anna.
The war years were difficult, forcing resettlement on the family and eventually driving them from place to place until they were able to settle in Schlarpe, West Germany. Olga lost her father during these turbulent times. She emigrated to Canada in May of 1954.
Olga made a new home for herself in Winnipeg where she worked as a seamstress. She married Edmund Sommerfeld in July of 1961 and was blessed with a daughter and a son. She moved with her husband to Kelowna, British Columbia in 1990 to be closer to her sister Alina.
Olga was a person who preferred to live her life out of the spotlight, she just quietly and lovingly got things done. She expressed her creative talents in her sewing, cooking and baking – she also loved to play games (cards, dominoes, board games) and enjoyed spending time in the garden and tending to her plants and flowers. She lived in Kelowna for 25 years, and after losing her husband there moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Olga’s memory will be cherished by those of us remaining: her daughter Edith and husband Michael along with their children Brendan and Justin and her son John and wife Trish, along with other extended family members and friends.
