Miriam «Maud» English
March 21, 1922 – December 06, 2020
Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on Sunday, December 06, 2020 in the presence of her loving family, Miriam MAUD English (nee Kelly), aged 98 years, formally of Brigus. Predeceased by her husband William Leo (1997), her parents Walter and Maria (Hiscott), her brothers William, Roland (Mary) and Clifford. She was the last member of her generation.
Leaving to mourn her family: Andrew (Edie), Geoff (Elly), Dermot (Ellen), Raymond (Barbara) and Paul (Robyn): grand-children Michael, Kelly, Rhea, Robert, Dawn Marie, Krista, Jason, Jodi, William and Sandra: great grand-children( Charlotte, Liam, Haylie, Tristan, Rylea, Loci, Soren, Nixon, Linden Rose, Lucas, McKayla and Max, Noella, Emmi, Daniel and life-long special friend Rita Dawe: many nieces (special niece June Fry), nephews and their families along with many good friends and the staff and residents at Tiffany Village where she resided for the past six years along with her neighbours in Kirke Place. Progressive thinker and ahead of her time, as a feminist, environmentalist and in her charitable work. Her door was always open to everyone, she was loving mother and grand-mother figure to many well beyond her immediate family. She was a traveller and had an insatiable curiosity with a thirst for knowledge second only to her love of her family. She survived 2 bouts of cancer. She was awarded the Lifestyle Achievement Award for her life-long commitment to volunteerism by the Government of Canada and for her special work with the CNIB. The love she gave us will strengthen us and inspire us to be the best we can possibly be. A life well and beautifully lived! We are all so proud of her!! May she rest in the arms of her Creator until we are all together again.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Caul’s Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Newfoundland Drive on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 9:30am. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
