Beloved wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Martha passed away peacefully following a stroke. Born in Chauvin, Alberta to Antoine Dolbec and Irma Simard, Martha grew up in Coquitlam and graduated from St. Paul’s nursing school in 1955. She married Bruce Smillie that year and was married for 62 years before his passing in 2018. Survived by seven children: Mark (Donna), Michele, Susanne Munro (Harold), John (Molly), Jamie (Kelly), Robert, (Monica), Andrew (Megan), 33 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Martha fed her family from her large garden, sewed clothes, knit highland dancing attire and was able to repair any appliance herself. Her diligent wine making ensured the cellar was kept full for large family dinners. She hosted parties for her kids’ college and youth group friends and corn roasts for her husband’s coworkers from the Vancouver Sun newspaper. She volunteered for many years at Birthright. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception, Delta where Martha was a parishioner for 65 years.
