Lalonde, Mary Elizabeth
Surrounded by the love of her daughters, Mary passed away peacefully at Fairview Manor in Almonte, Ontario on December 23, 2020.
Born in 1928 in Pembroke, Ontario to Mary O’Meara and Patrick John O’Meara, Mary is survived by her daughters, Ann Lalonde (Michael Bennett) and Claire Zanetti (Dan), five grandchildren, Gregory and Julia Bennett, and David, Michael (Carly Watters) and Patrick (Samantha) Zanetti and great grandchildren, Maxwell and Zachary Zanetti. Her husband of fifty-eight years, Raymond Lalonde, predeceased her in 2008. She was also predeceased by two infant sons: James in 1954 and Patrick in 1967.
Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Theresa, Katherine Antler (Delbert (deceased)), Patrick O’Meara (Muriel), Bill O’Meara (Dorothy (deceased)), Sheila Nagora (Don (deceased)) and Joan and is survived by her sisters, Frances Carroll (Earl (deceased)), Helen Coxe (Peter (deceased)), Rita MacDonald (Harry) and Ann Jennings (Doug (deceased)). She is also fondly remembered by many O’Meara and Lalonde nieces and nephews.
Mary’s life was shaped by growing up on a farm, as the eldest child in a large family and experiencing childhood during the Great Depression. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She will be remembered as a teacher, a volunteer, a storyteller, a fabulous knitter and baker and a person of great faith.
Mary met Ray in Capreol, Ontario and lived most of her life in Falconbridge, Ontario, a small community just outside of Sudbury where she and Ray had many wonderful years filled with friendship and community.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Marisa Rossi and the entire staff of Fairview Manor for the outstanding and compassionate care that Mom received over the past two years.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church in Garson, Ontario when circumstances permit gathering in person.
Memorial gifts to Diabetes Canada or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
