On Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 6:59am, Marius Joseph VanBesien, loving husband and father of three daughters, passed away peacefully at his home at the age 68. Marius was born August 1, 1951 in Tillsonburg, Ontario to Gustaf and Madeleine VanBesien. He farmed tobacco, cash crops, and ran a successful trucking and custom farming operation for 49 years in Norfolk County. On December 22, 1970 he married his best friend in life Mary Anne (Bolle), and they spent almost 50 loving years together. They raised three beautiful daughters, Michelle, Karen, and Cathy.
Marius had a passion for boating and the ‘Moonlighter’ was well known on the waters of Long Point Bay, and beyond, from May until late fall. He loved his family and friends and spending time with them all. The memories he has made with all of us will be forever in our hearts, he has touched the lives of so many. He was an avid snowmobiler and was a founding member and dedicated volunteer of the Southern Sno Riders. Marius was known to never pass up a crop tour, ‘coffee shop’ visit, or friendly picnic table talk, even if he had never met the person on the other side of the table before. Marius always put family first, including all the extended families of his life endeavours. He was a great friend, confidant, and mentor to untold members of his community. 19 years of strong will and love of life kept him with us as he fought and survived many battles with cancer.
Marius was preceded in death by his father Gustaf, mother Madeleine (Van Sevenant), brother Donald, son-in-law Dann Van Bakel, brother-in-law John Keirsebilck, and sister-in-law Rosie VanBesien. He is survived by his wife Mary Anne, daughters Michelle, Karen (Cale McEwan), Cathy (Dan Dietrich), his grandchildren, Tyler, Lauren, Brittney, Bailee, Brandon, and Brooke. There could be no more adoration between a grandfather and his grandchildren than was shared between them. He is also survived by siblings Charlie, Willie, Lillian, Crisona, Ronnie and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In light of the recent COVID-19 social distancing regulations, a Private Memorial Service to Celebrate Marius’ Life and Legacy will take place by Life Celebrant Specialist Tina Dias. This service is private and restricted to a limited number of guests, we apologize for the inconvenience, but we ask that you keep Marius, Mary Anne and their family in your thoughts.
