Marion Evelyn Gilbert (nee Smith)
1936-2020
It is with great sadness
that the family of Marion Evelyn Gilbert (Smith) announce her sudden
passing on September 2, 2020.
Marion was born January 13, 1936 in Blooming Point, PEI to
the late Lawrence and Catherine (Steele) Smith. Upon graduation from
Notre Dame Academy she moved to Toronto, ON to join her sisters where
she met and married John (Jack) Gilbert. They returned to Blooming
Point with their children where they lived until Jack’s
death in 1996 when she moved to Charlottetown.
She is survived by her loving children Catherine (Sandy) of
Savannah, GA, Michael (Barb) and Lisa (son-in-law Larry),
grandchildren Matthew Gilbert, Jennifer (Jonathan) Cairns, Alyse
Rossiter and Katie Rossiter. She was the proud great-grandmother of
Braiden, Alyvia and Irelyn Rossiter.
Marion is also survived by her siblings Mary Reilly
(Brantford, ON), Emma Dalton (Brantford, ON), Sister Bernice Smith
(Charlottetown), Phyllis (Edward) McQuaid (Dartmouth, NS) Gerry
Andrews and Lori Birt, her brother-in-law Neil MacDonald (Canton, MA),
along with a number of nieces and nephews and her special friends of
her retirement breakfast group.
She was predeceased by her husband Jack, brothers Bert, Reg
and Pat, sisters Lucy, Anne, Edna and Kay, sisters-in-law Eileen Smith
and Marion Smith and brothers-in-law Bernie Doyle, Terry Reilly, Mel
Dalton, Bud MacKinnon and Wray Gilbert.
Resting at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral
Home. Due to current restrictions a visitation and funeral mass for
family will be held with interment in St. Bonaventure Parish
Cemetery.
Family flowers only. As an expression of sympathy memorials
to St. Bonaventure Cemetery Fund or Stars for Life Foundation for
Autism would be gratefully appreciated.
Marion’s family would like to extend their
heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Emergency and
Unit 8 of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for their compassionate
care.
