Obituary
On the evening of Aug. 6, 2020, at the age of 62 ½ years old, Lorraine quietly moved forward in her eternal progression by returning to her Saviour after meeting the challenge of Down’s Syndrome. She touched many lives, especially her family, big brother John, sister-in-law Valerie, and their children Douglas and Jennifer. She is also dearly missed by 5 great-nephews, 1 great-niece, many friends and former neighbours. She is predeceased by her parents, Jack and Mabel Battrum, nephew William Battrum and special friend, Wendy Phillips.
Lorraine’s life was very full and productive in spite of the challenges she faced including the blindness from glaucoma. With an outgoing personality, she greeted everyone with a “Hi”. In her younger years she enjoyed family car trips, travel with mom and dad to Hawaii and Disneyland with Cheryl and Ray. Her education began at Christine Meikle School in Calgary and graduating from L. Y. Cairns Vocational school in Edmonton. She worked at Goodwill Industries and after moving to High River, she became part of the AIM program with a career highlight folding over 30,000 boxes at a local pizzeria.
Our family acknowledges, with gratitude, the special people in her life for the outstanding love, care, and support given by Ray and Cheryl Fox and Larry and Wendy Phillips. We deeply appreciate the care provided by Dr. Sarah Makhdoom, Dr. Andrew Crichton, the staff, job coaches, and participating businesses in the Foothills AIM Society, and the caring staff of the Vulcan Extendicare and Vulcan Hospital throughout our association.
A family graveside service will be held for Lorraine in Raymond, AB. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society (faims.org/donate) of High River.
