Marie-Antoinette Mimi Francoise Dube Dube Saturday December 19th 2020

Dubé, Marie-Antoinette Franҁoise “Mimi”
December 3, 1938 to December 19, 2020
It is with a deep regret that the family of Mimi Dubé announces her peaceful passing in the morning hours of December 19, 2020 at Health Sciences North. Mimi was born in 1938, in Ottawa, where she lived until she was 9 years old. At that time, her family moved to Coniston. Mimi treasured her time in both communities. She returned to Ottawa for post-secondary teacher training, then started a three-decade long career in and around Sudbury. She was affectionately known by her students as “Tante Mimi”, and taught in schools in Wahnapitae, Markstay, Sudbury, and Hanmer. It remains a mystery how she taught children all day long and still had the energy to nurture four of her own at home. Throughout her life, she went above and beyond to support those around her. Her love, resilience, and determination were unmatched. Mimi was a lifelong learner, and a proud graduate of Laurentian University. Another of Mimi’s passions was music. She was a wonderful singer and was a member of the Bel Canto Choir, alongside her long-time friend Marion Harvey Hannah. She loved the CBC, jazz and classical music, especially opera. Adventurous at heart, Mimi travelled across Canada, in California, and in Austria. She never hesitated to try something new if it would bring joy to her family and friends. Mimi was always available to support her grandchildren in any way she could, and she was always their most ardent fan. From chaperoning trips to LA, to cheering from the sidelines at swim meets and volleyball games, to supporting backstage and in the audience at plays and recitals, she passed along her love of the arts and of wellness. Her grandchildren appreciated her joie de vivre as well as her generous and caring nature. Wherever she is listening from, her children would like her to know that they will miss her wisdom, her interest in their lives, her continuous support, and her bigger-than-life love. Mimi will be missed by her siblings Roselea (Edward Paliwoda), John (Patsy), Denise (Julien Bergeron), Ray (Corinne), her four children; Joanne (Keith Edmunds), Bernie Villeneuve (Janet), Gilles Villeneuve (Cathy), and Guy Villeneuve (Darlene), her grandchildren; Megan, Adele, Ginny, Chelsea, Jacqueline, Josh, Kaela, Phillip, Nick, her great-granddaughter Shairah, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her father Georges, her mother Lillian, and her nephews John and Pierre. Special thanks to her good friends Marion, Alice, Mariette, Pierrette, and Lucille, her PSW Frankie for her many years of help, and all of the health care providers who have cared for her through the years (especially her personal nurse, sister, and best friend, Denise). Her family expresses gratitude to all who were part of Mimi’s journey. Today, we will listen to some classical music, snack on ginger cookies, and dark chocolate in Mimi’s honour. We’ll think of all of the valuable lessons that she taught us, and we’ll take the time to call someone that we love. At Mimi’s request, there will be no funeral visitation or service. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, donations to ZLT HOPE HOMES in Kenya, Africa or Muscular Dystrophy Canada would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home. For donations or messages of condolence, www.lougheed.org
