Maria Chambers Smith (O’Hare)
Marie was born in Paisley, Scotland on January 7, 1933 and passed away peacefully on the morning of January 15, 2020 in her 88th year in Clinton, Ontario.
Best mom in the whole wide world to David Smith of San Diego, California, Mark and Patty Smith of San Diego, California, and Allison and Achim Stoecker of Goderich, Ontario.
Fun-loving Grandma to Aaron and Allison of San Diego and Moira, Lindsay, Claire and Jess of Goderich.
Marie will be missed by her big sister Annie in Australia, and her many wonderful nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews in Canada and Australia.
Pre-deceased by her husband David Jeffrey Smith, brother John O’Hare of Scotland, sister Theresa Spehar of Ontario, and sister Rose Stevenson of Australia.
Marie brought joy and a smile to everyone she met. She was always ready with a song or would pull her harmonica out of her pocket.
Marie and Dave immigrated from Paisley, Scotland to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada in 1954, where they had their three children. They also lived in South Africa, Florida, and eventually settled in San Diego, California, where they lived until they retired back to Florida. They loved to travel and saw many parts of the world.
Marie was very brave and adventurous and definitely marched to the beat of her own drum. She will be dearly missed.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Huronview, where mom lived for the last two years. And special thanks to Anfield Manor who also took great care of mom in the transition from hospital to nursing home. Thanks also to the Alzheimer Society of Huron County for their programs, support, and kindness.
