Maria Grazia ( Apostoli) De Laurentis- Sept 12, 1925 – Dec. 24, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Graziella, in her 95th year. She was a loving mother to her son Vince ( Janet ) and daughter Adele (Lorenzo). She will be embraced by her Savior and her loving husband Giuseppe, her parents, Concetta and Pasquale, her brothers, Antonio ( Carina ) and Giuseppe and her little sister Elisabetta ( Guido). She is survived by her adoring sister Maria (Nicola) and her dear sister- in- law Flora.
She was an amazing grandmother to Gerry, Eddie, Christopher, Michael, Jeffrey and Nicholas. She was blessed with many great grandchildren, Elena, Lorenzo, Natasha, Matteo, Nolan, Mason, Naomi, Amelia, River, Ryder, Rohan, Zoe and Riley. She will also be remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Mom left her little hilltop town of Miano, Teramo Italy with her children, Adele and Vince and arrived in Canada November 6, 1956. How brave and strong and yes, probably scared, she must have been to leave the security of her family to join her husband in a strange new land. She was very proud to work as a seamstress in a coat factory in the rag district and felt so fortunate to have been given an opportunity to make a home in this great country, Canada.
One of Mom’s biggest pleasures was bringing the family together around the kitchen table where she made, homemade pasta, lasagna and the favourite for the grandchildren, gnocchi. She always used to say to us, “You better learn how to make this because I will not live forever.” What wonderful memories and customs we have inherited.
My mom’s special passion was her garden. She would spend hours planting, fertilizing her flowers and vegetables. Dad and Mom would have a competition on which tomatoes were bigger…..better. The tomatoes were huge, I swear they must have given them steroids. What mom loved the most was to share all the bountiful fruits from her garden.
Mom was strong and determined, so loving….so kind and very humble. Mom you have inherited the most beautiful garden of all……..Garden of Paradise. Rest in Peace.
The family would like to thank all the amazing caregivers , nurses, Dr. Wise and all the staff at Amica Swan Lake. You were all “Bella “ to Mom.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapel Ridge Funeral Home. 8911 Woodbine Avenue, Markham, Ontario L3R 5G1
