Lorna Anne Spence
January 6th 1944 – December 6th, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorna Spence at Deloraine Health Centre on Sunday, December 6th, 2020 at the age of 76.
Lorna is survived by her husband Ed, her daughter, Debra (Brian), grandchildren Taylor Wiltshire (son, Holden), RJ Wiltshire, Kaylie Spence, and Ariana Isakson along with her sisters Maureen Williams (Duane) and Barb Siemens (Vern) and sister-in-law Marjorie Ellen Terry (Jim) plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is predeceased by her son, Darren, grandsons, Gage and Logan, her parents, Audrey Edwards and Harvey Edwards, sister, Faye Adams, and brother, Jim Edwards.
Spending many of her childhood years in Medora with her grandparents, Mary and Kestle Edwards, Lorna attended school at Purple Hill, Medora, and Melita. It was while she was in school that she met Edward at the age of 15. They dated for seven years before marrying in 1965 and together, they moved into a new home on the Spence family farm.
Lorna had completed a hairdressing course and worked with her Aunt Ruth in Waskada, then in Melita, and she operated her own hairdressing room in the house on the farm for many years. Their daughter Deb arrived in 1972 followed by their son Darren in 1975. Lorna helped with the family farm and the aerial spray business, providing many delicious meals for pilots and farm crews.
Lorna loved crafts and spent many hours doing ceramics, macramé, and painting. She also loved going to bingo for many years and enjoyed the community she found with the people of Waskada Fellowship Church.
Lorna was an animal lover and in later years took great comfort in the care of her cats. She loved to take pride in her appearance and clothing, always staying up to date with styles and fashions.
Making friends wherever she went, Lorna was a people person who loved to chat with everyone she knew. She always had a kind word for people and took an interest in her friends and loved ones.
Having touched many lives in many ways, Lorna will be deeply missed. Her family takes comfort knowing Lorna is reunited with her son and grandsons. In light of Covid-19, there will be no funeral service, but the immediate family will gather for a graveside service. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful comfort and care provided by Dr. Sharma, the nurses, and staff of the Deloraine Palliative Care Centre during Lorna’s stay. Donations in memory of Lorna can be made to Prairie Mountain Health c/o Deloraine Palliative Care Centre, Box 447, Deloraine, MB, R0M 0M0.
An Angel
An angel lived among us,
a gift from God above.
She showered us with kindness,
and shared with us her love.
She lived life with a smile,
and with Edward by her side.
She held a faith both deep and strong,
with God her loving guide.
She loved her children dearly,
each one a different way,
and touched the hearts of loved ones,
both near and far away.
Her heart’s at peace and open wide,
with Heaven’s shining light.
And Lorna will live on in us,
forever shining bright.
