Loretta Mae Butler DeAdder 19372020

Loretta Mae (Butler) DeAdder
1937-2020
Loretta Mae (Butler) DeAdder, age 83, of
Kentville, passed away in Evergreen Home for Special Care in Kentville
with loved ones by her side on August 29, 2020. Born in Kentville, she
was a daughter of the late Gordon and Edith (Barkhouse) Butler. From
the day she was born, Loretta was «Snookie» to her father, a
name to which she responded even to the end. Growing up in Forest Home
on John Lane Road, her siblings became her best friends. She attended
the one room schoolhouse in Blue Mountain from grades primary to grade
8, and then on to the «new» Central Kings High School.
Loretta excelled at school, and loved it so much that she became a
school teacher for three years: two years at Blue Mountain and one
year in South Alton while starting her family and moving to South
Alton, where she and Roy built their home and lived for the next 60
years. The master of many things, whether sewing, cooking, or
gardening, she was always modest about her abilities. Church was an
important aspect throughout her life, and she was church clerk in
Alton for over 50 years. She enjoyed working and the sense of
accomplishment it gave her, spending over 20 years working at Sears.
She loved her family intensely, both immediate and extended. She loved
her granddaughters dearly, and in the regrettably short time that she
had with her great-grandchildren, they brought joy to her life and a
smile to her face.
Loretta is survived by her loving husband of 63
years, Eugene «Roy» DeAdder; daughters, Debbie (Gerald)
Vermeulen, Dawna DeAdder (Fenn Pretty) and Karen Diane DeAdder (Glenn
MacLeod); siblings, Mazie Russell and Everett (Gail) Butler;
grandchildren, Laura (Saami) Siddiqui, Kristina Vermeulen (Adam
Cruickshank) and Elise Vermeulen; great grandchildren, Zafar and
Maryam Siddiqui; many much loved brothers and sisters-in-law, as well
as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was
predeceased by her brother, Richard «Dick» Butler;
sister-in-law, Shirley Butler, and their son Todd; and brother-in-law,
Marvin Russell.
Cremation has taken place. There
will be no visitation by request. A private funeral service will be
held in the White Family Funeral Home Chapel, Reverend Virginia
DeAdder officiating. A video webcast of the service will be available
at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2020 and can be accessed online
at www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
Donations in memory may be made to Evergreen Home for Special Care or
the Alzheimer’s Society of NS. Arrangements have been entrusted
to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
