Loretta Bertha (Kopre) Bors
March 29, 1954 to June 26, 2020
Loretta passed away peacefully in the presence of her husband and most of her children at her home in Saskatoon. She was in the last stages of ALS when she requested help from Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). She was a lover of the outdoors. She enjoyed travelling, hiking, fishing, Tai Chi, reading, solving puzzles, computer gaming, rock collecting, inventing recipes and playing with her dogs. Above all, she enjoyed interacting and helping family and friends. She held management, HR and accounting positions in small businesses and NPOs, most recently retiring from A1 Accounting in Saskatoon. Her habit of talking to complete strangers and her various jobs led to having many friends. She deeply regretted that Covid-19 and her weakening condition did not allow her to say goodbye to many people, but she did come home from the hospital for a week to spend with family. She leaves behind: her mother, Loretta Kopre (partner Lin Baker); sister, Valerie Kopre (spouse Terry Mitchell); brother, Gordon; husband, Bob; 4 children with their partners, Wayne & Andrea Drennen, Kirk & Olga Bors, Aurora Bors & Roan Cooney and Nicholas Bors & Rose Hudson. She has one grandchild, Marcus Drennen. She specifically said to mention the partners because she loved them all very much.
She wanted to thank the neurology departments at Royal University and Saskatoon City Hospitals for taking her in, doing tests, trying treatments and diagnosing her condition. The team of doctors, therapists and social workers at Saskatoon City Hospital cared for her and enabled her to come home by arranging equipment (some from Sask Abilities) and training us how to use it. The MAID program allowed her to avoid increasing pain and low quality of life.
In leu of flowers, Loretta suggested making donations to the MAID program (Headquarters c/o Regina Hospital foundation, 2755 Avonhurst Dr., Regina, SK S4P 3J3) or to your local SPCA or any of the hospitals mentioned above. This obituary may seem a bit short to those who know her best, but one of her last requests/commands to her husband was “I don’t want you bragging about me in an obituary or listing my accomplishments. Keep it simple, list some light stuff and thank the medical people”.
