Leslie’s Obituary
POWELL, Leslie Irving ~ age 82 of Freeport, NS passed away on September 26, 2020 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Yarmouth. Born in Freeport, he was the son of the late Ernest and Isabel (Ruggles) Powell. Leslie worked many jobs in his lifetime including being a store owner, carpenter, fisherman, school bus driver, fish plants and lastly working the salmon cages. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 92 in Freeport. He was an avid woodworker and a real “Jack of all trades”. He will be remembered by many as a big man with an even bigger laugh. His bear hugs were famous and his love of old country music and anything space related (especially Star Trek) brought him great joy. Leslie will be deeply missed by his daughter, Jane (Joe) Flinn, Halifax; sons, Glenn Powell, Annapolis Royal and Wayne (Cindy) Powell, Freeport; grandchildren, Samantha Powell and Thomas Flinn, both of Halifax. Besides his parents, Leslie was predeceased by his sister, Doreen. The family would like to extend deepest gratitude to VON for their 9 years of care. He wouldn’t have been able to stay in his home without them. A special thanks to Kim Marshall (VON) who went above and beyond. A visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2020 in the Freeport Baptist Church from where the funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 2nd, with Lou Outhouse officiating. Due to Covid-19 gathering restrictions, face masks and provincial social distancing protocols must be followed during the visitation and funeral service. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Freeport. Celebration of Life for Leslie will take place at the Freeport Legion on Friday at 3pm.
