Kenneth Barrett
November 12, 1931 – June 22, 2020

Barrett, Kenneth (Ken) of Beaver Bank
It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth Heckman Barrett on Monday June 22 at Ivany Place, Bedford.
Ken was born on November 11, 1931 in Beaver Bank to the late Isabelle (Heckman) and Arthur Barrett.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dawn; and his children: Donna (Mike), Judy (Alan), Kevin (Angie), and Steve; and his grandchildren: Heath (Nicole), Caitlin (Steven), Austin (Sam), Calvin, and Julian; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Betty MacLeod. In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his brother, Charles; his sister, Marion Thompson; and his son Robert (Bob).
Ken spent his working life in the automotive industry. He was the former owner of Nova Automotive Machine Company, working there until he retired in his eighties. He took pride in his work and believed that providing quality to customers was the top priority.
Ken positively touched the lives of many. He was a community minded individual who was involved in many volunteer organizations including the management of the Beaver Bank Community Hall (Brown Hall) and minor hockey (President of the Beaver Bank Hockey Association), Board of Directors of Sackville Blazers Junior B and Ringette, Alcoholics Anonymous, and St. John’s Anglican Church. He was inducted into the Sackville Sports Heritage Hall of Fame in 2005 as a Community Supporter/Builder. He generously supported minor league groups, particularly hockey and ringette along with gentlemen’s and old timer’s hockey teams. He was a major sponsor for many years of the Sackville Blazers hockey team, of various lacrosse teams and the Sackville Chiefs baseball organization.
Ken was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He showed his family the true meaning of love – how to be loved but more importantly how to love others and life. He was a kind, generous, and gentle soul. A man of few words, who loved his family deeply and showed it everyday. He faced adversity head on with hope and determination; and never complained even when life was difficult. He instilled a strong work ethic in those around him. He was always compassionate with other and taught his family the importance of giving back.
Ken and Dawn loved to travel and spent many winters in Florida. In the summers, they could be found with their friends and family at their trailer in Hubbard’s. Ken was an avid golfer and always enjoyed spending time at Lost Creek with his lifelong friend Keith Barrett. He loved to play cards, especially crib and auction forty-fives.
We will miss him everyday.
A private family burial will take place. A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held later due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Ken’s family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Ivany Place. They went above and beyond in the care and compassion they provided to Ken. Donations can be made in Ken’s memory to the Church of the Good Shepherd (Beaver Bank), or to an organization of your choice.
