It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Keith Montgomery Fraser. Keith passed away suddenly on Monday, March 30, 2020, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 84 years.
Keith was born in Elkhorn, MB in 1935. After working on the family farm until the age of 20, Keith started work in the Petroleum Industry for 20 years, the first 5 years were in Virden, MB. Keith then transferred to Fort St. John, BC, with his wife Lorraine, and daughter Marla, daughter Shanna was born soon after. During the next 15 years, Keith was a Pipeline Superintendent with “Trans Prairie Pipelines”. Keith moved to Edmonton in 1974-1994, starting his first agency, K.M. Fraser & Associates, selling hospital equipment. Later accepting a position of Western Canadian Sales Manager for Swedish company, “Arjo Inc.”. Keith married Sylvia Maxwell in 1983. The next venture led to Keith and Sylvia travelling extensively throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and BC, representing various golf equipment manufacturers. In 2000, they relocated to Grande Prairie, AB. Keith decided to retire at age 75.
Keith was a very outgoing person with the ability to talk to anyone. He excelled at most everything he did in his life. Keith was an avid sportsman which included a lifetime of hockey, baseball, curling, skiing, and golfing. Later, he enjoyed playing pool at the Golden Age Centre. It was a proud day for Keith’s family when he won the gold medal for the 2012 Canadian Men’s Senior Golf Championship held in Nova Scotia. He also enjoyed hunting big game, birds and fishing, which included many trips with his grandsons, sons in-law, and friends. Keith fished The Great Bear Lake, caught Arctic Char at Tree River, near Frobisher Bay, NWT, float fished in the Kenai River south of Anchorage, Alaska, hunted sheep and goats by packhorse in northern BC. Keith has dipped his toes in the Atlantic Ocean off Cabot Trail, the Pacific Ocean off Vancouver Island, and the Arctic Ocean by Tuktoyaktuk, NWT. Keith and Sylvia travelled BC, Alberta, and numerous states, with skis, golf clubs and sometimes both. They also travelled several places such as Mexico, Europe, Hawaii, Southern California, Florida and Arizona. They were gearing up for another summer pulling their 5th wheel up and down the highways to visit friends and family.
Keith leaves behind his loving wife Sylvia of 37 years; their children and families: Marla (Cam) and children: Sean (Jess), Joel (Amanda) Macmillan and Kim (Lee) Horton; Shanna (Glen) and children: Chance (Samantha), Cassidy (Corban) Wright; Laurie (David) Sandboe and children: Erin (Kelsey) grandchildren: Kash, Olive, Saige, and Laine Hoffos, children: Malin (Erin) grandchildren: Ophelia, Haakon, and Henrik Sandboe; children: Heidi (Nic) and grandchild: Thorton Hargreaves; Sherri (Alan) Wenzel and children: Shae (Mackenzie), grandchildren: Brynn and Breah Wallan, children: Aimee (Kody), grandchildren: Asher, Harlowe and Romee Deley, children: Reid Wallan; brother in-law Murray Campbell, and sister in-law Allison (Tom) Dechaine.
Keith was predeceased by his parents Earl and Margaret Fraser, sister Isabelle Campbell, mother and father in-law Jimmy and Alice Grassick, brother in-law Donald Grassick, and sister in-law Jeannie Murray.
Keith was a very loving and devoted husband. He was a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by so many friends and family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
