Joseph Elmer «Joe» MacMullin –
age 68, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of
Joe in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
Joe retired from Eden Valley Poultry after 41 years and had a side
project with Scotian Gold that kept him busy after his working days.
Joe was a hard worker who took pride in his work both on the job and
at home. He earned his coworkers respect and admiration. Joe loved
listening to the oldies of rock and roll and loved to dance up a storm
in his younger years. You could hear him coming up the road driving
his red Datsun, windows down and tunes blaring. Joe was always
puttering in his garage and on occasion he would sit and chat with the
neighbours. He took pride in his yard and gardens, both children and
seniors delighted with his collection of Garfield, Mickey, Minnie
Mouse, Alf, Dumbo, Sylvester and Tweety Bird and many other Disney
characters throughout the years. He was a big kid at heart. Joe was
always stepping up to help a neighbour, friend, or family. Joe would
do whatever necessary for his folks or siblings or anyone in need. Joe
loved to bowl, travel, play cards, do jigsaw puzzles and was an avid
Blue Jays fan. Joe was a quiet, gentle man who loved and was loved by
his family, his coworkers and his adopted family at Mountain Lea
Lodge. His Alzheimer’s journey has ended here, «Fly
free my love, you have earned your wings.» You are loved and
will be sadly missed, forever in our hearts. Joe is survived by his
wife, Theresa (Kerr); daughter, Jennifer MacMullin, Cambridge; son,
John MacMullin, Kentville; sisters, Joanne (Ivo) Patterson, London,
Ont.; Marie (Dave) MacDougall, Helen Dinner, Theresa (Anton) Malnar,
Margaret McKelvey, Kimberly Rafuse, all of Okotoks, Alta.; brothers,
Tom (Brenda) Jefferies, Florence, Cape Breton; Michael (Maxine), St.
Catharines, Ont.; sister-in-law, Catherine MacMullin, St. Catherines,
Ont.; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was
predeceased by a sister, Emma (Frank) Wallace; brother, Lawrence
(Catherine); half-sisters, Annie May Mageron, Katherine (Leonard)
Cann; half-brothers, John Michael, Henry and Roderick;
brothers-in-law, Paul Dinner and Roger McKelvey. Donations may be made
to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or The Heart and
Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. The family is grateful to Mountain
Lea Lodge, Dr. Goodine and all the staff for their loving and
dedicated care. Joe’s life was richer because you were in
it. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be
held in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. An online webcast of the
service will be available at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2020.
