Obituary of John Emrys Lewis
John passed away peacefully at his home, with his loving family by his side on Sunday, August 16, 2020. Born in Llanhilleth Abertillery, Wales, on August 3, 1948, John Emrys Lewis of Owen Sound, formerly of Brampton, was in his 73rd year.
Beloved husband of Bernadette (née O’Regan) for 46 years. Loving father of David Lewis (Rolanda Smith) of Guelph, Gareth Lewis (Courtney) of Newcastle, NSW Australia, Catherine Lewis (Garrett Chafe) of Brampton and Nia Lewis (Bryan Nixon) of Lively. Cherished Grandpa of Brendan Lewis, Annabelle Lewis, Edward Chafe, William Chafe, Macie Lewis, Owen Lewis and Jordan Nixon. Dear brother of Ieuan Lewis (Merrill) of Atwater, Ohio, Mary Williams (Malcolm) of Crumlin, Wales, Huw Lewis of Fennville, Michigan, and brother-in-law of Jeremiah O’Regan (Marian) of Dublin, Ireland, Catherine Cotter (Tom) of Cork, Ireland, Josephine Mangan (Michael) of Blarney, Ireland, and Peter O’Regan (Gabrielle) of Belgooly, Ireland.
Predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Valmai (née Edwards) Lewis, step-mother May (née Thatcher) Lewis, and by his brother-in-law Liam O’Regan.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate John’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 554 15th St. E, Owen Sound, on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at 12 p.m., with Fr. Wojciech Kuzma officiating. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, guests are asked to wear a mask and follow physical distancing rules. The service can be viewed via livestream by selecting the ‘LIVE STREAMING’ menu option at the top right corner of the funeral home website (www.woodfuneralhome.ca). Cremation is to follow and interment will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Irish Block Road, Meaford, at a later date. A reception will immediately follow the Funeral Mass at the Knights Of Columbus Centre, 770 6th St. E, Owen Sound.
