Joanne Stephanie Fenerty
August 19, 1957 – October 25, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister Joanne Stephanie Fenerty on October 25, 2020 at the age of 63. Joanne passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Halifax Infirmary. She was the daughter of the late Shirley Fenerty (Smeltzer) and David Fenerty.
Joanne grew up in Lower Sackville and graduated from Sackville High School in 1975. She was a proud member of the Neurosurgery Unit at the QE II for 28 years until her retirement. Joanne loved Christmas and all the family gatherings. She was the “unofficial” caretaker of Fenerty siblings and spent most of her time looking out for the well being of her family. She was very generous with her time and resources for all her extended family. She was so proud of the accomplishments of her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews throughout Canada. Joanne could always be counted on, no matter the occasion, to spoil everyone with treats.
Joanne is survived by Steve (Vivian) Fenerty of Lower Sackville, Virginia (Wade) Benedict of Ottawa, Paula (Frank) Garner of Waverley, Alan (Carla) Fenerty of Cole Harbour, Ross (Cheryl) Fenerty of Truro, Wade Fenerty of Middle Sackville and Leslie Fenerty Butler of Ottawa. Joanne was predeceased by her parents and most recently her brother Barry Douglas Fenerty in August 2020.
There will be no visitation or service at this time. A service and private family interment will be held at a later date when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff on 6.1 Cardiology Unit at the Halifax Infirmary for their attentive and compassionate care, especially Brandy and Lindsay.
