Jean-Louis «John» Garbes
1940-2020
Garbes, Jean-Louis (John), Bible Hill, passed away
peacefully, Tuesday, October 6, 2020 in Wynn Park Villa, Truro. Born
on March 6, 1940 in Oran, Algeria, he was the son of the late Ramon
and Encarnacion (Garcia) Garbes. After time in Algeria, France and
Spain, John moved to Canada in 1963 and eventually settled in Truro in
1977 with his family. Having a natural skill for design and
engineering, John and his business partner established Specialty Steel
Inc. in Debert in 1983, from which he retired in 2010. He loved to
laugh and had a never fading French accent.
He is survived by his wife Fran; daughters, Amy Davidson
(Stefan) and Renee Garbes; grandchildren, Jordan Garbes, Claire
Davidson; sister Michele; brother Paul-Henri; son Paul
Garbes.
No visitation or funeral by family request. Arrangements are
under the direction of the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young
Street, Truro. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in
memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia
or to the Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. A special thanks to
the caring and compassionate staff of Wynn Park Villa who cared for
