James Leslie «Jim» Thompson
1958-2020
It is with profound regret that I announce the passing of a
great man and my true love. Jim lost his seven year battle with
prostate cancer on Thursday, February 13, 2020 and died at home with
all the love and dignity we could give him. He was strong and
determined to do whatever was needed to give us more time but he was
not able to overcome cancer no matter how hard he
tried.
We had a love for all ages. We met in a foreign land, fell
instantly in love, travelled around the world and raised three amazing
children. The strength, courage and compassion our kids have shown in
the past few weeks gives me the confidence and reassurance that we did
something right. Emily, Andrew and Max, you have many of your
father’s qualities inherent in you. Continue to work hard
and make yourselves proud. Dad will be watching and guiding you in
ways we don’t even know yet.
The love and support that has poured in over the past few
weeks indicates to me just how much of an impact Jim made at work. He
was proud of his role as a health care team member and fought to be
able to work to the fullest scope of a Respiratory Therapist. He was
always willing to teach or give a helping hand. He forged meaningful
and genuine connections with everyone he met.
Jim’s crowning accomplishment and his legacy to us,
is the cottage at Rumsey Lake. Jim put his heart and soul into every
detail that made the cottage warm and cozy and a place to gather. Jim
was so proud of his handy work, he left an open invitation to any and
all to come visit, so please feel free to come whenever and often. Jim
and Sharlott will be there in spirit with a warm fire burning and a
bottle of rum in the cupboard.
Jim is survived by Jane, Emily, Andrew and Max; mother, Pearl
Thompson; in-laws, Andy and Barb Cress; siblings, Nita Wiebe; Penny
(Gary) Davidson; Richard (Maxine) Thompson; Billy Thompson; Lloyd
(Anne) Thompson; brother-in-law, Jeff Cress; best friends, Dean
Boutilier; Bruce Tilley; our only «grand», fur baby,
Watson; many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a whole host
of friends from around the world.
He was predeceased by his father, Douglas Thompson;
brother-in-law, Barry Wiebe; sister-in-law, Carol Thompson and most
recently, our fur baby, Sharlott.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by
request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will take place
at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2020 in the White Family Funeral
Home, Kentville, Reverend Debra Orton officating. There will be a
«Wake at the Lake» on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at
Rumsey Lake. The family would like to thank Dr. Julia Merryweather,
Dr. Bruce Palmer, Dr. Karen Burch, Dr. Lori Burgess, Dr. Sarah
Surette, Dr. Mike Keough, the oncology and palliative care teams, VON
and the EHS Special Patient Program that provided support which
allowed Jim to stay at home. A special thank you as well to all of the
staff and colleagues at the Valley Regional Hospital and Family First
Medical for their continued care, kindness and compassion. Donations
in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation for
the purchase of Neonatal Resuscitation Mannequins. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
