Irene Ens 2020

Irene was born on March 27, 1932 in the Meadow Lake area to Henry and Katherine Peters. She was the oldest of 5 children. During her childhood years church attendance and summer Bible camps established her in the faith which became her foundation for life.
After high school she attended Swift Current Bible Institute for one year. Upon returning home she was employed at the OK Economy Store, first in Meadow Lake and later in Saskatoon. She set her goal on a career by attending Saskatoon Business College and worked for one year at St. Paul’s Hospital. This was followed by accepting the position of secretary at the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation, a position she held for 27 years. During this time she gained many lifelong friends.
Soon after her retirement she married John Ens in 1993. They enjoyed many happy years together, travelling to tourist destinations and appreciating the many warm winters in Arizona with friends.
Irene, together with John, was an active church member as well as a faithful member and supporter of the Gideons. They welcomed and entertained many friends in their home at 302 Braemar Crescent and appreciated all who came. Irene became known for her humor, quick wit and practical jokes. She loved cooking and prepared many a delicious meal for family and friends. Irene and John had an active social life.
In 2012 they moved into a condo. Irene was able to be there for only three months. Failing health necessitated a move to Central Haven Nursing Home. For the last two and a half years she has been at Circle Drive Alliance Care Home. A heartfelt thanks from John goes out to all who gave her excellent care.
Irene passed peacefully into eternity on Friday morning, April 3, 2020.
She leaves to mourn her passing, husband John Ens; sons Wayne Ens, Ken (Leslie) Ens and grandsons Thomas and Andrew Ens.
She will be sadly missed by sister-in-law Mary Peters; brother Edwin (Della) Peters; sisters Marlene Meldrum and Esther (Dennis) Froese; John’s sisters Evelyn (Ike) Dyck; Alvena (Bob) Tagart; and Mary (Ed) Enns. She was predeceased by her brother Alvin Peters; brother-in-law Al Meldrum and sister-in-law Tina Peters.
Due to COVID-19 legal restrictions on crowd size, there will be a private family graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens on Saturday, April 11, 2020. A celebration of Irene’s life will be planned for a later date.
Donations may be made in honor of Irene to any charity of your choice.
