Peacefully, with her family by her side, Hilda Maria Brugghe (nee Verhaeghe) passed away at the Treherne Personal Care Home on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at the age of 95 years.
She leaves to mourn her six daughters: Lena, Maria, Madeleine (Gerry), Chris (Ken), Agnes, and Doreen (Larry); thirteen grandchildren: Colin (Stephanie) and Matthew Boisjoli; Cheryl (Reid Love), Stephanie (Gabriel Houghton) and Christopher (Sara) Tack; Jennifer (David Defoort), David (Erin) and Brian (Madison) Michiels; Lisa (Kyle Bernier), Kevin (Natalie) Tack, and their father, Remi Tack; Bradley (Jennifer), Jeffrey (Taylor) and Lindsay Michiels; fourteen great-grandchildren: Nolan and Nate Love; Lucca and Logan Houghton; Dane, Archer and Marshall Tack; Austyn, Evelyn and Letty Defoort; Sam and Sophie Michiels; Gia and Casey Tack.
Hilda also leaves to mourn her passing her brothers: Albert Verhaeghe in Belgium, Michel Verhaeghe in Ontario, her sisters-and brothers- in law, and nieces and nephews both in Belgium and Canada.
She was predeceased by her husband Odiel, parents Camille and Elvira, sisters, Clara and Simone, and brothers, Laurent, Gabriel, Daniel, Triphon, and Rafael.
Hilda was born May 10, 1925 in Ruislede, Belgium. In 1951, she married Odiel Brugghe in Belgium and shortly thereafter they emigrated to Canada. They farmed in the Somerset/ Swan Lake area before buying a farm around Notre Dame de Lourdes. They retired to Holland and later to the Treherne Villa. In 2016, Hilda became a resident of the Treherne Personal Care home where she received good care and comfort.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother. She was a kind, strong, hard-working woman who loved her family and friends. She enjoyed playing Bien, Belgian bowling and visiting with friends and family. She also volunteered at the hospital and care home, always willing to lend a helping hand.
A private family graveside service will be held on Monday June 22, 2020 at St. John Berchmans Parish Cemetery, Holland MB, with Father Joseph Tran officiating. Memorial donations can be made in Hilda’s memory to a charity of choice.
