Obituary of Helen Brandt
Helen Brandt passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24th, 2020, at the age of 93 years and 8 months. She was born to Jacob and Anna Gerbrandt in Rosetown, Manitoba on March 2nd, 1927.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Phyllis and husband Roger, 3 sons; Dennis and wife Bud, Ken and wife Debbie, Clarence and wife Karen, nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, three sisters; Ella of Crystal City, Manitoba, Ruth of Abbotsford, British Columbia and Mary of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
She was predeceased by her husband Dan, her parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Mom learned early in life what it meant to work hard and to help with family finances. The family moved many times in order to find work during her early years and finally settled in Steinbach when she was in her early teens.
She met and married Dan, the love of her life, in June of 1946. They spent their married years in Steinbach where she enjoyed her roll as wife, mother and grandmother. She was a great mom, always willing to help out wherever she could and never too busy to sit and chat awhile. As an amazing cook her desserts, soups, meals, pickles, yes pickles (hers were the best) were always looked forward to and enjoyed! At Christmas time she made it her mission to make everyone’s favorite food. She has years of lists in her notebooks of what she had to bake or cook before the family came home for Christmas. Her love for family was expressed by her many acts of service. We were blessed to have her as mom, grandma and friend!
The grandchildren will remember the many table/card games they played together with her, the delicious snacks she served and the love they could always count on.
She was a faithful member of the Christian Fellowship Church and was involved in ladies’ groups, Sunday School and different committees and prayer groups. This was always very important to her.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Menno Home for the care and love they gave to Mom. As in any situation there are always those who take the time to go the extra mile and give the hug, the encouraging words or prayers. You all have worked tirelessly to make life a little brighter for those so isolated and lonely. We so appreciate every gesture that has helped Mom through these last difficult years and especially these past four months. God bless you all at the Menno Home as you continue to serve Him by serving those so vulnerable.
