Helen Smith (nee Schultes)
1936 – 2020
It is with broken hearts our family announces that on December 11, 2020, Mom passed away, peacefully at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 84.
Mom is survived by her children Gordon (Kori), Margaret (Paul) Montieth, Rachel (Adam) Norton and Joanne; Grandchildren David, Cathy, Andrew, Caitlin and Tyler as well as 3 Great-Grandchildren Madison, Abigail and Colton.
Mom was a woman that never backed down from standing up for what was right and she was a force to be reckoned with. If she was in your corner, you knew that you were in great hands. Whether it was fighting for affordable housing or the right for others to keep their homes, Mom was there.
Mom loved with the same fierceness as she fought. There wasn’t a day that went by that all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren didn’t know the love that their Grammy and GG had for them. The same could be said for the pets of the family. All of the dogs were so happy when they saw their Gram coming up the walkway. While Mom’s fight for life may be over, her love for her family will live on, forever.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Riverview Health Centre, especially student nurse Melanie, for making Mom’s final days comfortable and peaceful
Due to COVID restrictions, burial will take place with only her children in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba in Mom’s name.
