McDonald, Gordon Duncan Robert

Gordon died peacefully at Luther Special Care Home on Thursday, September 24 at the age of 92. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mildred, children Vicky Berge (Al), Laurie Rae Wahl (Earl), Scott (Shelli) and Janice Crossley (Randy); grandchildren and great grandchildren Amy Peacock (Brent)(Faith); Taryn Berge (Lachlyn, Carrigan, Rylee Anderson); Derek (Lesley)(Kayden, Ashlyn, Mannix); Ryan Neefs (Erin)(Tucker, Jacoby, Brady, Isla); Carmon Schmidt (Regen)(Lucy, Simon, Ben); Kyllie McDonald; Samantha Firth (Cody)(Kennedy, Brooklyn, Makayla); sister Marguerite Graves, niece and nephews Dale Graves (Denise), Brian Graves (Patti), Keith Graves (Glenda), Diane Robinson (Brian) as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Carman and Beatrice McDonald, mother-in-law Veda McDonald and brother-in-law George Graves.
Gordon was born in Biggar and grew up in Sanctuary, Sask. After graduating from high school he moved to Saskatoon to attend Robertson Business College. He began his career at Burns Meat Packing Plant before joining Federated Co-op as an auditor and eventually moving to the Co-op retail stores in Eston, Wadena and Prince Albert. Gordon joined Co-op Trust in the late 60s working in Prince Albert and Saskatoon. He retired from the Saskatoon office as an Estate Officer – a position he greatly enjoyed.
Throughout their married life Gordon and Mildred enjoyed travelling, spending many summers camping and touring in various parts of Canada. In later years they also took bus tours, cruises and travelled to sunny climates.
Family and friends were important to Gordon and their home was often the gathering place for many occassions. Nothing made him happier than to spend time with his children, grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren.
Gordon was very involved in his church community. Music was a large part of Gordon’s life. He sang in church choirs and was a long time member of the Chimo Chordsmen. He and Mildred enjoyed dancing and belonged to several square dance clubs over the years. They were a treat to watch on the dance floor at family weddings.
Due to Covid restrictions a celebration of life is planned for spring 2021 in the hope that we are able to gather safely. An announcement will be placed in the Star Phoenix when the date is known. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Luther Special Care Home 1212 Osler Street Saskatoon, S7N 0T9, Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
