George Charles Laight Laight Friday November 20th 2020

After a life well lived, George Laight passed away after a short battle with cancer, at home with his wife Valerie Mullen by his side.
Husband and best friend of Valerie Mullen; son of Charles & Anne Laight (both deceased); brother to Ron (Linda Power), Don (Laura Schening), and Bob (deceased); step-father to Christine Mullen (Greg Johnson); uncle to Christopher, Jessica (Oscar Welsh), Kyle (Samantha Gray), Sarah and Brian; and great-uncle to Alyssa and Brooklynn; brother-in-law of Guy Welsh (Deceased) (Diane), Gilbert Crain (Cathy), Archie Crain (Linda) (both deceased), Norman Crain (Sylvia), Wilburt Crain (Barbara), Donna Crain (Keith), Rosanne Rogers (Fraser), and Thomas Crain (Tammy).
George will be remembered for his tireless giving and endless generosity, George volunteered for the Red Cross and was an active behind the scenes contributor to Trinity Church outreach. More importantly, he was always there to help anyone with any need, be it giving business or job advice, assisting with the planning of the celebration or life’s joys, or supporting others through health battles, and life’s hardships. You did not need to know George personally for him to hop in his truck to come to your aid. He treated friends-of-friends like immediate family and gave of himself every day to so many.
George has left a tremendous void in the numerous clubs to which he belonged, most notably Beast Snowmobile Club and, Freedom Harley Davidson Owners Group, where his laughter, jokes, advice, and help are already missed.
A lover of travel and experiences, George was born in Alberta, moved to Ottawa, drove cabs and operated heavy machinery in Fort McMurray, worked in the mines of Sudbury, and lived in Vancouver, before returning to work in tech sales in Ottawa where he carried the torch for the Calgary Olympics as it passed through, and filled his life with snowmobile and motorcycle trips and his beloved vacations to his home away from home in Daytona Beach.
George was a master at work life balance, making his sales calls from a fishing boat, and never letting a job interfere with his dedication to his daily visits with his mother Anne during her final years. His ability to prosper professionally while maintaining his numerous hobbies and always making himself available to friends and family inspired all who knew him to live better lives themselves. George always made sure to be involved in the lives of his family. From surprise visits that always cheered you up, to attending his nieces and nephews events, George always showed his support and went out of his way to make sure they knew just how proud he was of them.
In 2011, he met the love of his life, Valerie. With their shared values of the importance of friends and family, their two circles became one. George’s friends and family welcomed Val with open arms and George treated her family like his own, helping out tremendously with her daughter’s wedding, and going on hunting trips with her brothers. Together George and Val enjoyed their lives to the fullest, travelling to Florida every year, visiting family in the US and Western Canada, exploring Scotland, and constantly planning adventures throughout Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. Together there was never a day without laughter.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private family service will be held. You are invited to live-stream the Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at 2:00p.m. via

In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of George’s generosity, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion (Barrhaven branch 641), The Terry Fox Cancer Foundation, and the Red Cross are encouraged and appreciated.
