Obituary of Frank Bergeron
It is with profound sadness, the family of Franklin Benjamin Bergeron announces his passing on May 4, 2020. Frank is survived by his sons Robert (Barbara) and Barry and daughter Valerie McCrae (Steve). Leaving to mourn are his cherished grandchildren Veronica Couture (Matt Walters), Lyndsay Popley (Carlisle), Kristen Stegehuis (Jay), Ryan (Morgan), Marc (Jenna), Michelle (Mike Stewart), Kevin McCrae (Stephanie) and Corey McCrae (Heather). Survived by great-grandchildren Jordan, Reid, Matthew, Gavin, Lucas, Landon, Brendan, Cole, Parker, Rourke, Blake and Elsie.
Born February 6,1927 in Ansonville, Ontario, Frank was the much-loved son of the late Frank Sr. and Florence. Frank truly had a memorable life and was always eager to share his stories to family and friends. No story was ever so precious as the ones told of his devotion to our mother, lrene Bertha Leeson, who predeceased him in 2012. Theirs was a true romance. Having met while pursuing his hockey career with the Hamilton Juniors, they married young and he and his little puck bunny travelled throughout North America from San Francisco, San Diego, Springfield, Buffalo, and on to Halifax, before establishing their home in Owen Sound to play for the Owen Sound Mercury’s, Meaford Chevys and Collingwood Shipbuilders. It was his privilege, with his knowledge of the sport of hockey, to be a proud coach of the Owen Sound Greys. His hockey career led him to be inducted into the Halifax Sports Hall of Fame and likewise into the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame.
He established himself as a prominent businessman in the automotive industry when his journey with hockey ended.
His proudest accomplishment however, or so we were told, was his family. No man worked harder to share his stories, his talents, especially on the ice, and to give his love within the family unit that he and mom created.
For anyone who knew Frank, his prowess was not only on the ice rink. He was surpassed only by a few on the golf course, winning multiple challenges and being Club Champion. With always a strong desire to get back on the course, he never ever thought of relinquishing those golf clubs that weighed a ton, with the optimism of taking his sons and daughter on for one last match. Always in the trunk of his car thinking his next tee off was around the corner, they always had a purpose, one of them being for more traction in the winter!
We are going to miss you dad. You lived for 93 glorious years. You made us proud of your determination and grit. Wish we had you for longer, but farewell until we meet again. Give Mom a hug from us for Mother’s Day!
