Obituary
Frank Wiebe
With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Frank Wiebe on March 19th, 2020 in Selkirk, MB at the age of 69. Frank will be greatly missed by his loving wife Cathy, children Debbie, Leo, & Nick (Harmony), grandchildren Dustin, Connor, Jesse & Rory. Frank will also be missed by family in Alberta and Ontario.
Frank was born on April 9th,1950, in Paraguay. Frank and his family moved to Canada in 1956. Frank was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Agatha Wiebe, sisters Dora and Hilda, brothers Peter, Henry, Rudy and Corney. Survived by sister Betty (late Allan), brothers Willy (Debbie), George, and Helmuth.
Frank was a “Jack of all trades”, and held many talents. He was a carpenter and a craftsmen, took pride in building his own home in the late eighties. Frank was well known for his world famous Cinnamon buns and local Selkirk business The Upper Crust Bakery, Frank was not only a baker but an aspiring chef. He often showed his love through food and loved hosting dinner parties in his home and took any opportunity to try out a new dish. Anyone would be a fool to choose going out to a restaurant, than a home cooked meal by Frank. His signature dishes like his breakfasts (potato pancakes), soups, prime rib and Caesar salad will be missed by many. One of Frank’s favourite past-times was going out in the bush and cutting wood with his grandsons, playing volleyball in the pool with many family and friends.
Frank was a force to be reckoned with and had a bold and brass personality. You may have been tested by how you could handle a joke, or how many buttons that could be pushed before hopefully cracking a smile. Frank led a life that created humorous stories and memories that will carry through generations.
Frank was a lover of music. His music collection lingers in the minds of his loved ones. One of Debbie’s fondest memory was of listening to Johnny Horton ( aka Johnny Beck as she would say)with her dad, the pause and clicks echoing of his CD changer in the background switching over to the next Tanya Tucker song, or his granddaughters memory of his foot stomping and family dances to “ Ol’ Time Rock and Roll”.
Frank opened his heart to many close friends that he also considered as family. Thank you for everything Old man, Dad, Frankie, Papa, We miss you and will love you “forever and always”.
Due to capacity restrictions a celebration of life will be graciously held by invitation by the family through Gilbart Funeral Home. The family would like to thank everyone for the love and support during these challenging circumstances. We ask that in lieu of flowers that donations could be made in Franks name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
