Obituary of Eric Wilfred Webster
Webster, Eric Wilfred
September 24, 1926 ~ April 3, 2020
Beloved husband of Nancy (Purvis), dear Dad to Lorna (Allen Hills), Elizabeth (Tom Goddard), Fred, George (Rebecca). Predeceased by Lorna. Poppa to Erica Hills; Evan (Terri McGarry), Mark, Paul Webster; Janet (Justin Luoma), Rachel (Jonathan Cole) and Steven Goddard. A special in-law, uncle and friend.
Born and raised on Bluemont Farm. A leader in various community and provincial organizations – Junior Farmers, Soil and Crop Improvement, The St. Lawrence District Medical Centre, The Federation of Agriculture, to name a few. Famous for his succinct letters to the Editor. An innovator, entrepreneur and community –spirited man with a great sense of humour. He stood up and spoke on issues that mattered – the importance of a reliable Canadian food supply, quality education and rural access to medical care. His life ranged from working on a slate at Greenfield School to teaching himself how to surf the Internet. Eric and Nancy travelled to all continents but Antarctica in their retirement after a lifetime of farming. Special appreciation to the staff at MapleView Lodge in Athens for their loving and respectful care over the years.
In compliance with Heath and Public Safety Directives, A Public Celebration of Eric’s Life will be held at a later date. Barclay Funeral Home, 1033 Prince St. Lansdowne entrusted with the arrangements. In memory of Eric, donations to the St. Lawrence District Medical Centre or the Alzheimer’s Society would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Messages of condolence may be made online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com.
