Elizabeth Sarah Rafuse

Elizabeth
Sarah Rafuse – age 89, of Sheffield Mills, passed away on February 8,
2020 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in
Baxter’s Harbour on July 12, 1930, she was a daughter of the
late George and Alice (Schofield) McCulley. Elizabeth grew up on the
family farm in Baxter’s Harbour and was later employed as a
waitress in Kentville until she and Bud were married in 1950. She was
a stay at home mom in Lower Canard, Upper Canard and Sheffield Mills.
Elizabeth was a devoted member of First Cornwallis Baptist Church as
Sunday School teacher, Sunday School treasurer, Senior Auxiliary and
WMS member. She was also on the Deacon’s Board, served as a
Trustee and was a member of the Social Committee. At the time of her
passing she was an Honorary Deacon. Elizabeth became a member of
Gideons International in Canada in 1987 and held an active part until
health hampered her activeness. She is survived by her husband,
Lochlan «Bud» Rafuse, Sheffield Mills; daughters, Dianne
Rafuse-Bennett (Chris) Bennett, Coldbrook; Eleanor (Richard) Marsters,
Truro; sons, Glendon (Corrina), Kentville; Bruce (Twana), Welsford;
five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother, Carl
(Heather), Baxter’s Harbour. She was predeceased by sisters,
Laura Martin, Lola Schofield, Dorothy Barkhouse, Gertrude Compeau and
Sadie Heaslip; brothers, Wylie, Wesley, Nelson, Nathan, Joseph and
Harold. There will be no visitation, by request. A
funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13,
2020 in the First Cornwallis Baptist Church, Upper Canard, Pastor
Stephen Wheaton officiating. Burial will take place in the Canard
Burial Ground. Following the burial, a reception will be held in the
church vestry. Donations in memory may be made to Gideons
International or First Cornwallis Baptist Church. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
