Obituary
Elinor Wheatley
1931 – 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Elinor Wheatley who was called to eternal rest on Monday, April 13, 2020 in West Kelowna, BC. Elinor succumbed to a stroke she had on April 5th. She was born on November 15, 1931 in Montreal, Quebec daughter to Jimmy and Nell Ware. She will be dearly missed by her five children and their families: Andrew (Carmen), Debbie (Peter) Boef, Peter, Geoffrey (Kim) and Jim (Nina) all from BC. Grandchildren include: Jacqueline, Kelsey, Amy, Gordon, Trevor, Rebecca, Nicole, Jake, great grandchild Ella and her sister Jane Honeyman from Guelph, Ontario and brother Jimmy Ware (deceased).
Elinor had a tough last year and she fought it with every ounce of courage she had. First it was the diagnoses of dementia, that led to a fall which put her in the hospital for many weeks followed by a new permanent home at Village at Smith Creek where she died peacefully with family by her side. She will be remembered for her kind loving soul always wanting to help others. Many people would often comment on her facial expressions always giving the family, friends and staff a reason to smile and laugh with her. Elinor loved family. It was the most important thing to her, and she would do anything for them. She loved to go camping, travelling, golfing, skiing, fishing and hunting – with her kids. She also enjoyed the quieter things in life like, knitting, sewing, cooking, baking and going to the Opera. Elinor loved to learn. She started her teaching career at Vassar College, in NY where she met the love of her life and husband, Donald. Fast forward ten years and five babies later she started teaching again in Vancouver, BC. This she did until her retirement when she moved up to the Okanagan to be closer to family. Elinor always loved small dogs. Once retired and living in West Kelowna, she was able to fulfill that dream of owning small dogs, Teeka and then Eddie. Elinor will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held later in the year when it will be allowed.
