Edward (Duff) Michael Jordan
May 25, 1949 – August 1, 2020
It is with great sadness we advise the sudden passing of our special and unique brother Duff Jordan at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Marathon.
Survived by sister Lesley Landry and brother John (Claudette) Jordan.
Duff will be fondly remembered by:
Nephews: Adam (Nikki), David (Sonya), great nephews: Joshua, Marshall, Bennett, Jack
Nieces: Eileen, Elissa (David), Kristine (Steve); great nieces: Abigail, Adeline, Sophia
Predeceased by father, Jack 2002 and mother, Edith 2017.
Born and raised in Marathon, Duff worked out of Vancouver as a deck hand on various ships. He returned to Marathon in the late 1970’s, working at the paper mill/woodyard and on the D.C. Everest. Ultimately, he became self-employed as a proficient house painter and furniture builder/refinisher. Eileen was the thrilled recipient of a beautiful handcrafted hope chest. Moving back to Marathon allowed Duff to be a huge, loving presence in the lives of Adam & Elissa (affectionately known as “warthogs”) right from their birth.
An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, Duff often invited friends, family (especially Adam) and out of town visitors to join him. He enjoyed picking berries (with some help from Elissa: more eating, less picking) and he became (in later years) an adept baker of pies.
His greatest passion was his garden, which was his pride and joy. Heaven help the bug or weed that attempted to trespass on his vegetable patch! Many people were grateful recipients of his yearly harvest, including Mum & Dad. His “natural” flower garden was appreciated and often commented on. He “bragged” about it, including pictures with annual Christmas cards. Kristine was gifted a poppy for her garden which pops up everywhere but where it was planted!!
As Mum & Dad aged, Duff was a welcome assistance in the house. After Dad’s passing, when Mum developed Alzheimer’s, Duff fulfilled his sacred promise to her, caring for her in a phenomenal manner. He kept her at home until her passing, despite his own struggles with COPD.
A quiet man with a wry sense of humour, he had a soft heart hidden under a gruff exterior and a penchant for anonymous generosity. He was well respected by friends and the community. We are heartbroken by his passing. He will be dearly missed!
Cremation has taken place with no celebration of life as per Duff’s wishes.
Memorial donations in his name may be made to Wilson Memorial Hospital, the Lung Association or charity of your own choice.
