Chisholm – 93, Debert.
It is with sadness that we inform you of the peaceful passing of Earl
Wesley Chisholm on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Colchester East
Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Debert, he was a son of the late
William and Emma (McCully) Chisholm.
Earl leaves behind his beloved wife, Goldie (Conrad); son,
Robert (Gerene), Truro; daughters, Marguerite Reid, Riverview, New
Brunswick; Annette (Carl) Giddens, Calgary, Alberta; grandchildren,
Stephany, Sarah, Sandra, Christopher, Mark, Marie Claude, Emma; great
grandchildren, Marcus, James, Owen, Thomas, Gabrielle, Avie, Neil,
Daylan; brothers, Angus (June) Chisholm, Bedford; Frank (Barbara)
Chisholm, Sackville, New Brunswick; sister-in-law, Ruth Chisholm,
Truro; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Along with his
parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Carl, Merle; son-in-law,
Neil Reid; great granddaughter, Amelia.
Earl and Goldie were happily married for 66 years, living the
major part of his life in Debert. He commenced his working career on
the family farm at an early age and then joined CNR Signal Department
in 1953, from which he retired in 1987 after 34 years of service.
After retirement, he enjoyed many happy hours woodworking with Everett
McCully and riding around on his red tractor. He was a member of St.
John’s Anglican Church, Truro, where he volunteered on a
regular basis, and was also an adherent member of Debert United
Church.
An avid volunteer, Earl was an active member of Debert
Community Council from which he received a certificate for his
dedication to the community. He served in excess of 40 years as
Chairman of Debert Cemetery Committee and helped with cemetery
maintenance.
He was a member of King George Lodge, Debert, where he
received a Meritorious Service Award and after the closure of the
Debert Lodge, he joined Fellowship Lodge in Truro where he was
presented with his 60 years of membership pin. He was also a dedicated
member of Myrtle Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and recently
received a Life Membership. He enjoyed being a member of Colchester
Housing Authority for eight years and served as Chairman for three
years. He loved music, enjoyed helping with the community jams and
traveling around in their travel trailer for over 30
years.
Above all, Earl was a dedicated husband, father and
grandfather who cared for his family deeply and was devoted to their
well-being.
The family would like to acknowledge the services of VON as
well as the support and kindness of the medical staff at Colchester
East Hants Health Centre.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Due to Covid-19, the
funeral service and interment will be held at a later date when all
family members can attend. If so desired, donations in
Earl’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed. Private
