Derek Alton Calnek
1962-2020
Derek Alton Calnek – age 57, of New Minas, passed away on
Monday, January 13, 2020 at home. Born in Annapolis, he was a son of
Twila (Chute) Calnek, Port Williams and the late William
«Alton» Calnek. Derek received his long haul
trucking education in New Brunswick and spent a number of years on the
road. He received Tech Training at CDI College and was later employed
at Mack’s Mechanical out west. He owned and operated Stealth
Oil Fields Services. Derek returned to Nova Scotia where he was
employed with Staples in New Minas and enjoyed spending time with
coworkers and customers in the tech department. In addition to his
mother, he is survived by a daughter, Jenna Calnek (Julien
Bellefleur), Halifax; sister, Carla Calnek (Shannon Brewer), Granville
Centre; brother, Wade (Lynn) Calnek, New Minas; several aunts, uncles
and cousins. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by niece,
Jessica. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by
request. A graveside service celebrating Derek’s
life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to
Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
