Clarke, Frances Violet
Longtime Clarksburg resident Frances Clarke, daughter of the late Percy and Violet (nee Bye) Reid, passed away peacefully at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Thursday January 16, 2020 in her 88th year.
Frances was predeceased also by her husband Harvey Clarke in 1989.
She was the much loved mother of Lee Ann Simons and her husband David of Meaford and loving ‘Gram’ of Scott Hutchinson and Adam Hutchinson and step- grandmother to Kevin Simons (Jennifer). She will be missed by her great-grandchildren Jocelyn and Gabrial.
Sisters Loreen Shortt and Eleanor Monk and a brother Bob Cranney predecease Fran.
Before Fran started having health problems she enjoyed many trips to Scotland, Hawaii, Florida and the East and West coast of Canada. Her working life and career always revolved around the apple industry, beginning by picking apples for local orchard growers, then Haines evaporator, Mitchell’s juice plant, Binkley packing plant, to making homemade pies for two local fruit stands. To some she was known as ‘the pie lady’. When baking became too much Fran was busy with the Rebekah Lodge, card games, delivering Meals on Wheels, church functions and the odd yard sale. She enjoyed being involved with her grandsons’ activities, especially attending their hockey games. Fran loved life.
The past six years she has been entertained with participating in social activities at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre. Unfortunately, her failing health and progressing dementia had been increasingly challenging over the past year.
Funeral services will be conducted at Grace United Church in Thornbury on Tuesday January 21, 2020 at 12 noon where family will receive friends from 11 o’clock until the hour of service.
If so desired and as your expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 (www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca) to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
Interment will take place at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.
