Charles Milton Bailey Thursday October 22nd 2020

Charles (Milt) Bailey
August 2, 1930 – October 22, 2020
With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Charles Milton Bailey (Milt) on the afternoon of October 22, 2020 at St. Boniface Hospital. Milt will be dearly missed by his children Brenda, Brian and Brent (Andrea), son-in-law Bill, grandchildren Bob, Bonnie (Ron), Blair (Alexandra), Thorrin, great-grandchildren Kayla and Blake, sister Zoe, sister-in-law Margaret, brother-in-law Eric, and nieces and nephews. Milt was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Elinor, his parents Charles and Gladys, sister Evelyn May, sister-in-law Evelyn, brothers-in-law Dave and Frank.
Everyone genuinely loved Milt, his sense of humour and his good-hearted teasing brought smiles to us all.
Born August 2, 1930 in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Milt shared his many stories of growing up in Saskatoon with family and friends. As a sports enthusiast he had many stories to share; friendships he made, games he played, and the players he had coached. He coached Bantam Hockey in Saskatoon, and continued coaching throughout the years. One, of many memorable stories, was heading to Vancouver in his late teens to play tennis and basketball. His basketball team played a charity event against the Globetrotters, which was a close game for a spell, until of course, the Globetrotters decided to win – by a lot!
He eventually moved back to Saskatoon and began working at Eaton’s, where he met Elinor, and another adventure began. Retail was a perfect fit for Milt, as he loved work, and meeting people.
Milt’s love of challenges and traveling resulted in a transfer to Eaton’s in Winnipeg in 1964, followed by moves to Chatham ON (Stedman’s store manager) and Kitchener (Walker’s store manager), before returning to Winnipeg to be a senior buyer with Gamble-Macleods. Being a people-person, retirement wasn’t an easy thing for Milt to bear, as he loved traveling and work. This led him out of retirement when he was offered a buying position with Workwear World, resulting in a move to Chilliwack BC.
After a decade in BC, Milt and Elinor were drawn back to Manitoba as the desire to be near their grandchildren proved too great. Milt’s love of nature and wildlife drew him to Pinawa, then eventually they returned to Winnipeg.
Over time, Elinor’s love of painting and creating crafts, along with Milt’s love of gardening and nature, combined to create beautiful garden crafts. Together they began travelling the country to attend craft shows, meeting new friends and selling their wares. They were very successful, often returning home sold out, and all smiles.
Milt, you will be greatly missed. Your love of life, people and positive attitude lives on in all who knew you.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff from Palliative Home Care and St. Boniface Hospital. We all realize these are tumultuous times and your care, effort and compassion are truly appreciated.
At Milt’s request, there will be no service held.
