Bruce Stewart Romney passed away on December 17, 2020 at Castleview Care Center. He was born May 6, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Junius Stowell and Ruth Stewart Romney and was the 3rd of 4 boys in his family which included Junius (Jim), Joseph, and David.
He was a student of the University of Utah while serving in the United States Navy, traveling the world for 3 years, and completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. After a 4 year courtship, he married his sweetheart, Carol Jean Metcalf, of Salt Lake City, Utah. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweden for a period of 2 years, and upon her return, they married on March 13, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bruce went on to complete his Masters Degree in Mathematics also from the University of Utah, and upon completion was hired by a brand new Selkirk College in Castlegar, British Columbia where he taught for 30 years. They had 4 children; Sherman (Lori) of Stansbury Park, Utah; Kenneth (Heidi) of Twin Falls, Idaho; Devon (Lynette) of Newman Lake, Washington; and Amanda (Brett Stuart) of Preston, Idaho.
Bruce was knowledgeable about and loved nature, including hiking, backpacking, and fly fishing in BC, and Utah. He was a beloved college instructor, often walking/hiking to work when weather permitted. He offered many extra hours of instruction beyond the call of duty for his students. His quiet, gentle nature, and service in his church and community were a hallmark of his kindness and concern for others. His remarkable memory of past students’ names showed his caring nature, and was noticed by many.
Bruce and Carol raised their family in beautiful Castlegar, and have lived there for 55 years, making a large impact on the community and enjoying the friendships of many. They are the proud grandparents of 21 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren with more on the way. Bruce was predeceased by his brothers Jim, and Joe, and sister-in-law Carole (Jim). He is survived by his brother David (Patricia), sister-in-law Florence (Joe), and his large posterity. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for him at Castleview Care Center, as well as all of the friendly staff there. He was treated with such kindness and respect.
