It is with sadness that the family of Betty Johanna Hann (Ne
Frishmuth) announce her passing, on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at her
residence in Mill Cove Nursing home.
Betty was born on September 22, 1939 in Dortmund,
Germany. After her marriage, she immigrated to Canada in
1964 where she became a proud Canadian citizen. Her first
months in Canada were spent in Harbour Buffet, Newfoundland where
through culture shock and a language barrier, she was lovingly
embraced by her In-laws. Betty spent the next 56 years between the
Fredericton-Oromocto areas, except for one 4 year military posing back
to Germany in the early 1970’s.
Betty loved gardening and was very proud of her
African violet collection. She loved birds and kept finches
as pets for many years. Betty’s greatest love;
however, was her family.
Betty is survived by her only son Martin Hann
(Lindsay) and her cherished granddaughter Rowena Hann, of Waasis, NB,
to whom she was a much loved ‘Oma, ‘ her cousin
Udo Villwock and extended family of Dortmund Germany and several
sisters and brothers-in-law in Newfoundland. She was
pre-deceased by her mother Emmy Frishmuth, brothers Adolf and Franz
and her sister Ada in Germany.
At only 5 feet tall Betty was small but
mighty. As a child of WWII she endured much in her life but
never let it get her down. She led a quiet, meaningful life
and had loyal and caring friends. She loved to joke around
with people and was well liked by all who met her.
A memorial to celebrate Betty’s life will
be held in the spring when she will be interred in the Forest Hill
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that
memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of NB
or a charity of the donors choice.
