Obituary of Auline Grace Roper
It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of our dear mother, Auline Grace Roper, on August 18, 2020 at the age of 88 in the Saint John Regional Hospital.
She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her children: Donna Swetman (Eddie), Joseph Roper Jr. (Trudy), Noella Stordy (Allan), Patricia Roper (David), Paul Roper (Deborah), Colleen Bartlett (Robert), Shawn Roper (Michelle). She was the grandmother to Jennifer, Joseph (Donna), Michael, Katelyn, Jared (Joseph), Benjamin, Nicholas, Samuel, Issac (Noella), Dawson (Patricia), Erin, Kyla (Paul), William, Grace and Thomas (Colleen) and Great Grandmother to Brayden Bauer, Hunter, Easton, Jordan, Sydney, Beau, Sophia and Jack. Auline leaves behind her sister-in-laws, Ida Roper, Margaret Lythgoe and Nora Allen.
Auline was the youngest of 13 children, born on September 18, 1931 to the late Jane Amelia (Mallory) and Harry Allen of Gagetown, NB. She was predeceased by parents and siblings, Bessie McGibbon, Rena Stackhouse, Sadie Selby, Jemima Allen, Charlie Allen, James Allen, Jean Eisner, Harry Allen, Frank Allen, Mary Hayden, George Allen and Larry Allen. As a young adult, Auline was thrilled to move to the big city of Saint John and was happy to call it home. She worked in Payroll for McAvity and Sons and there she met the love of her life – Joseph. They married on August 7, 1954 in Stephenville Nfld, They eventually returned to NB where they raised their 7 children.
Auline was a homemaker who provided a safe and loving home for her family. She was a member of the CWL and a member of the Assumption, St. Rose and St. Matthews parishes. Throughout her life Auline lived in Saint John NB, Newfoundland, Alberta and Saudi Arabia before settling in Grand Bay-Westfield, NB. Auline was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph in 2014.
Our mother had many wonderful attributes. Her patience, gentleness, humility and kindness – to name a few. Her beautiful smile and joyful laugh would light up a room. She was fun loving, talented and creative, keeping busy either quilting, decorating, baking, cooking or gardening. She loved reading, music and dancing. Her sisters and brothers were her best friends and she loved the gatherings, visits and phone calls. They were a talented and musical family and it was a gift to witness their love and camaraderie. She was an experienced world traveller but home meant the world to her and she made it special by her unwavering love and devotion to her family. Despite her age and ailing health she continued to have faith and never lost her enthusiasm for life. Auline demonstrated so much inner strength and courage each time she became gravely ill but always managed to fight her way back. We feel blessed and grateful and consider ourselves the lucky ones to have had her for our mother and friend. She left her family a legacy of love and respect and she will forever, lovingly, remain in our hearts.
Thank you to all the wonderful family and friends who shared Auline’s journey through life. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the care workers and nurses at the Turnbull Nursing home, in particular «Edra» for the care and kindness she gave our mother.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7425). A celebration of Auline’s life will be announced at a later date, when her family is safe to travel. Donations in her memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
